I wasn't very careful with my measuring when drilling the holes in the cap, so they aren't always centered in the V.  That is just an asthetic concern, not a functional one.

AlexAndChristine > This photo shows the setup for cutting the V in both the base and cap.  I used an adjustable angle table (setup to 45 degrees using a 45/45/90 gauge...the angle table scale is way off) and mounted my normal vise to it.  It was tedious cutting the steel block where I could only take off about 0.020" at a pass, but easy with aluminum where I could take off 0.060" at a pass.
